AmeriCorps VISTA Tenant Organizer
We are looking for a tenant organizer to work with residents in privately-owned, federally assisted housing in Boston and the surrounding area. Boston's housing market remains a target for investors and those looking to capitalize off of peoples' homes, and many low-income tenants are at high risk of displacement.
As an organizer, you will help support and empower these tenants to fight for stability and safety in their housing. With the MAHT team, you will also expand your knowledge of Boston's history in fighting for fair and decent housing and about MAHT's history in supporting tenants to save their homes.
This opportunity is part of the nationwide Safe and Healthy Homes service project run by The National Alliance of HUD Tenants (NAHT), a national, tenant-led coalition of tenant groups in privately-owned, federally assisted housing. You will gain a deep understanding of federally supported housing in your local community, inform tenants of their rights, and help organize effective tenant associations. Your work will be critical to preserving and improving quality affordable housing across the nation.
The length of the VISTA service term is 1 year with possibility to continue afterwards. The VISTA will receive a bi-weekly stipend of $1,027.88 (pre-taxes), plus a $5,000 SEGAL Education Award upon successful completion of the full project term.
